1. Acceptance
By downloading, installing, or using BetterScreenShot, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the software or its integrations. Microsoft Store and browser marketplace terms may also apply to distribution and installation.
2. Permission to use the software
Subject to these Terms, the publisher grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable permission to install and use BetterScreenShot for lawful personal or business purposes on supported Windows devices. This permission does not transfer ownership of the software, branding, documentation, or other publisher materials.
3. Your content and responsibility
You retain your rights in screenshots, recordings, imported media, projects, text, and other content you process with BetterScreenShot. You are responsible for:
- Having permission to capture, record, edit, store, or share the content.
- Complying with privacy, confidentiality, intellectual-property, workplace, and recording-consent laws that apply to you.
- Reviewing blur, pixelation, cropping, captions, OCR, and other output before publication.
- Saving or backing up important work outside temporary History storage.
- Protecting any file or link you share.
BetterScreenShot does not grant permission to capture protected, confidential, copyrighted, or private material.
4. Local data and recovery
Core BetterScreenShot workflows use local files and application data. History, autosave, backup, and Recovery Center are convenience and recovery features, not a guaranteed permanent archive. Hardware failure, storage limits, operating-system changes, user deletion, third-party software, or an interrupted write can still cause data loss.
Keep separate copies of work you cannot afford to lose. Do not manually modify BetterScreenShot application-data folders while the app is using them.
5. Optional Google Drive sharing
Google Drive sharing is optional and uses the Google account you connect. When you choose the sharing action, BetterScreenShot can render and upload one selected screenshot, GIF, or recording and create a view-only anyone-with-the-link permission for that file.
- You are responsible for confirming the correct account, file, edits, and audience before sharing.
- Anyone who obtains the link may be able to view the file.
- Google may process or restrict the upload under its own terms, policies, quota, security, regional, or Workspace rules.
- Disconnecting BetterScreenShot does not delete uploaded files and does not automatically remove existing public-link permissions.
- Use the app's link-privacy controls or Google Drive to remove permissions and delete files.
See Google Drive Data Use and the sharing guide.
6. Third-party services
BetterScreenShot may interact with services or software operated by others, including Microsoft Store, Google Drive, supported browser marketplaces, Windows sharing targets, email clients, and websites opened by the user. Those services are governed by their own terms and privacy policies. The publisher is not responsible for a third-party service's availability, processing, preview quality, policy decisions, account restrictions, or changes.
7. Prohibited use
You may not use BetterScreenShot to:
- Break applicable law or another person's rights.
- Capture credentials, private communications, protected media, or confidential data without authorization.
- Distribute malware, abusive content, fraud, or deceptive material.
- Bypass digital-rights management, the Windows secure desktop, access controls, or service restrictions.
- Interfere with the software, its security controls, Store packaging, browser integration, or another user's system.
- Misrepresent an edited or generated output in a way that causes unlawful harm.
8. Output and feature limitations
Capture, OCR, QR recognition, audio, camera, encoding, hardware acceleration, scrolling capture, browser capture, native transcription, and export results depend on source quality, device capability, Windows permissions, codecs, drivers, supported languages, application behavior, and third-party restrictions.
The optional native Windows transcription feature can produce inaccurate text. It is a draft tool, not a guaranteed transcript. Review every word before using captions, chapters, quotations, or critical information.
9. Updates and documentation
The publisher may fix, change, add, limit, or remove features. Documentation may describe v0.5.47 and above before a particular Microsoft Store device or market receives that version. Check the installed version in BetterScreenShot before following a version-specific workflow.
10. No warranty
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, BetterScreenShot and its documentation are provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis without warranties of uninterrupted operation, error-free output, compatibility with every device or application, permanent data preservation, or fitness for a particular purpose.
Nothing in these Terms excludes a warranty or consumer right that cannot lawfully be excluded.
11. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the publisher is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive loss, or for loss of data, profits, business, opportunity, goodwill, or access arising from use of BetterScreenShot, third-party services, or shared links.
Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
12. Ending use
You may stop using BetterScreenShot and uninstall it at any time. Before uninstalling, save important files, export projects, review Recovery Center, create a local backup, make Drive links private if needed, disconnect Google Drive, and delete any uploaded files you no longer want.
The publisher may end permission to use the software if you materially violate these Terms, subject to applicable law and Store rules.
13. Changes to these Terms
The Terms may be updated when features, integrations, law, or publishing requirements change. The effective date at the top of the page identifies the current version. Continued use after an update means the updated Terms apply to later use, subject to applicable law.
